Therapy that
comes to you

You don't need to live near Balwyn North to access our support. Our online therapy sessions make it easy to connect with our psychologists and dieticians from the comfort and privacy of your own home. Whether you're living regionally, managing a busy schedule, or simply feel more comfortable in your own space, Telehealth offers a flexible and convenient way to prioritise your wellbeing.

We offer both video and phone appointments, so you can choose the option that feels best for you. All you need is a quiet spot at home and a good internet connection (or just a phone line), and we'll take care of the rest. It's therapy that fits your life, no matter where you are.

Medicare rebates apply to telehealth psychology sessions in the same way as in-person. With a valid Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you can access up to 10 subsidised sessions per calendar year.

Secure Video Platform

Sessions are held via a HIPAA-compliant, end-to-end encrypted video platform. No downloads required. Your psychologist sends you a link, you click it, and you're in.

Same Quality, Same Rebates

The same registered psychologists. The same evidence-based therapies. The same Medicare rebates. The only difference is you don't have to leave your home.

Flexible Scheduling

Telehealth often allows for greater flexibility in scheduling, including earlier mornings and later afternoons that suit your work or family commitments.

Is Online Therapy Right for You?

Telehealth works well for most presentations. Here's a guide to help you decide.

Online therapy is ideal if you…

Find it difficult to attend appointments in person due to distance, mobility, or caring responsibilities

Experience anxiety that makes leaving the house challenging

Have a busy schedule and value the flexibility of attending from work or home

Are working with anxiety, depression, grief, stress, relationship issues, or life transitions

Want to continue therapy when travelling, relocating, or living regionally

Simply prefer the comfort and privacy of your own environment

In-person may be preferable if you…

Are working through trauma using body-based or somatic methods that benefit from physical presence

Don't have access to a reliably private, quiet space at home

Are a young child under 8. In-person play-based approaches tend to work better

Experience significant technology anxiety or connectivity issues

Are in a mental health crisis. In-person or phone crisis support is more appropriate

Not sure? We'll discuss what's most suitable for you when you book. Many clients also mix in-person and online sessions depending on their week.

How To Make The Most of Your Online Sessions

1
Step One

Check Your Connection

A strong internet connect is an important component of setting up as this will ensure an uninterrupted session. Reset your modem by turning the power off, waiting one minute and then turning the power back on. Close other tabs/windows on your computer to prevent any buffering. Choose a location close to your internet modem/router.

2
Step Two

Choose a Private Location

Choose a private location where you will not be overheard or interrupted.

3
Step Three

Adjust the Lighting

Lighting should be aimed toward the front of you. Avoid sitting with a window or other source of light behind you.

4
Step Four

Connect Bluetooth Earbuds or a Microphone Headset

This improves the overall sound quality and prevents a distracting "echo" caused when one person can hear them-self on the other's computer speaker.

5
Step Five

Position Your Camera

Make sure your camera is eye-level and that your face is fully visible on the screen.

The evidence
for telehealth

Telehealth psychology has been extensively studied, particularly following its rapid expansion during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research consistently shows that for most presentations, online therapy is equally effective as in-person therapy.

Studies on CBT, ACT, trauma-focused therapy, and depression treatment delivered via video have demonstrated comparable outcomes to face-to-face delivery, with the added advantage of improved access and reduced barriers to engagement.

At Pre-Emptive Healthcare, we've been delivering telehealth sessions since 2020 and have developed strong practices to ensure the quality and safety of online sessions.

87%

of clients report equal or greater satisfaction with telehealth compared to in-person therapy (various studies, 2020–2024)

= effective

CBT delivered via video shows equivalent outcomes to face-to-face delivery for anxiety and depression, consistently supported by meta-analyses

↑ access

Telehealth significantly increases access to care, particularly for people in regional areas, those with mobility limitations, or those with anxiety about attending in person

Frequently Asked

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

For most presentations and most people, yes. The research on telehealth psychology consistently shows equivalent outcomes to in-person therapy for anxiety, depression, stress, grief, and many other presentations. The therapeutic relationship, which is central to outcomes, transfers well to video. Some approaches (particularly somatic or play-based work with young children) are better suited to in-person. We'll tell you if that's the case for you.

Do Medicare rebates apply to telehealth sessions?

Yes, Medicare rebates apply to telehealth psychology sessions in exactly the same way as in-person sessions. You need a valid Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, just as you would for in-person therapy. The rebate amount is the same regardless of whether you attend in person or online.

Is online therapy private and secure?

Yes. We use a HIPAA-compliant, end-to-end encrypted video platform. Sessions are not recorded and cannot be accessed by third parties. Your confidentiality is protected by exactly the same ethical and legal standards as in-person sessions. We recommend you attend from a private space where you won't be overheard. But beyond that, the platform itself is fully secure.

What if my internet drops during a session?

Technology isn't perfect. And we plan for this. If your connection drops, your psychologist will call you on the phone number in your file to continue the session, or reschedule the remainder. We won't charge for time lost due to technical issues on either side. If you're in a rural area with intermittent connectivity, phone sessions are also available.

Can I switch between online and in-person sessions?

Absolutely. Many of our clients mix in-person and telehealth depending on their schedule and circumstances. There's no need to choose one permanently. Just let us know how you'd like to attend when you book each appointment.
