Why assessment
matters

At Pre-Emptive Healthcare, we provide thorough and compassionate ADHD and Autism assessments for individuals aged 12 and above.

Neurodiversity acknowledges the natural variations in how people think, learn, and process information.

Masking involves hiding or suppressing neurodivergent traits to meet social expectations.

Individuals commonly experience traits of both conditions, termed AuDHD. ADHD involves attention regulation, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. Autism involves differences in social communication, sensory experiences, and behavioral patterns.

Gold-Standard Tools

We use validated, normed psychometric instruments (cognitive batteries, behavioural rating scales, clinical interviews, and structured observation), not questionnaires alone.

Detailed Written Report

You'll receive a comprehensive report suitable for schools, workplaces, NDIS, Medicare, and your treating team, clearly written and easy to act on.

Collaborative Feedback

Results aren't just handed to you in a document. Your psychologist will walk through the findings with you, explaining what they mean, answering your questions, and discussing next steps.

Reasons People Seek Assessment

Assessments are appropriate for children, teenagers, and adults across a wide range of presentations.

01

Suspected ADHD

Difficulty sustaining attention, impulsivity, forgetfulness, disorganisation, restlessness, or emotional dysregulation (across childhood or first presenting in adulthood).

02

Suspected Autism (ASD)

Difficulties with social communication, sensory sensitivities, preference for routine, special interests, or a longstanding sense of being "different" (assessed across all genders).

03

Learning Difficulties

Unexplained struggles with reading, writing, mathematics, or processing (ruling out or identifying specific learning disorders such as dyslexia or dyscalculia).

04

Executive Functioning

Difficulties with planning, prioritising, initiating tasks, time management, working memory, or emotional regulation (affecting school, work, and daily life).

05

School Accommodations

Formal assessment reports are typically required to access exam provisions, support classes, teacher aide funding, and other educational adjustments through schools and VCAA.

06

Workplace Accommodations

Adults seeking formal documentation to support requests for reasonable adjustments at work, including flexible hours, task modification, or additional support.

07

NDIS Access

A psychometric assessment report is often required to support an NDIS application or plan review, documenting functional impairment and support needs.

08

Second Opinion

Adults or families seeking a second opinion on a previous diagnosis, or exploring whether an existing diagnosis fully explains the difficulties experienced.

09

Late Identification

Many people (especially women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals) are identified with ADHD or autism only in adulthood. It is never too late to seek assessment.

The Assessment Process

A thorough assessment takes time. Here's what to expect from enquiry to report.

1
Getting Started

Initial Enquiry & Referral

Contact us to discuss your situation. A GP referral is not required to arrange an assessment, but is recommended for access to Medicare rebates on assessment sessions. For children, a paediatrician or GP referral may also be useful context. We'll discuss what type of assessment is most appropriate for your needs.

2
Pre-Assessment

Clinical Interview

Before any formal testing begins, your psychologist conducts a thorough clinical interview, exploring your developmental history, current functioning, previous assessments, and the specific concerns that have brought you to assessment. For children, a parent interview is conducted separately.

3
Testing

Psychometric Testing Sessions

Testing is typically conducted across one or two sessions (2–4 hours total). This includes standardised cognitive and neuropsychological tests, behavioural rating scales (completed by you, a parent, or a teacher), and structured observational assessments where relevant. Testing is administered in a calm, comfortable setting.

4
Feedback

Feedback Session

Before the written report is finalised, your psychologist will conduct a feedback session to discuss findings, answer questions, and ensure you understand what the results mean. This is an important part of the process, not an afterthought.

5
Report & Next Steps

Written Report & Recommendations

You'll receive a detailed written report covering cognitive profile, diagnostic impressions, and personalised recommendations, suitable for schools, workplaces, NDIS, and your treating team. We'll also discuss any recommended follow-up, including therapy or referral to our psychiatrist for medication if appropriate.

Fees & Rebates

Assessment Pricing

  • ADHD Assessment: $1,410 total (3 × 60–90 min sessions)
  • Autism Assessment: $1,410 total (3 × 60–90 min sessions)
  • Combined Autism and ADHD Assessment: $1,880 total (4 × 60–90 min sessions)

In Australia, individuals under 25 years of age may be eligible for Medicare rebates to help cover the cost of an Autism or ADHD assessment when referred by a paediatrician or psychiatrist.

Important Information

Psychologists cannot prescribe medication or authorize GPs to prescribe it. For ADHD, some may seek medication from a psychiatrist without a report. For both ASD and ADHD, assessment provides valuable insights and guides management in collaboration with medical practitioners.

ASD, ADHD and combined ASD/ADHD assessments provided directly to clients for clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning are generally GST-free under Australian tax law. Where commissioned by third party (insurer, legal representative, school, organization), GST may be applicable.

Frequently Asked

Can adults be assessed for ADHD or autism?

Absolutely. Many people reach adulthood without ever receiving a diagnosis, particularly women and gender-diverse individuals, who are often missed or misdiagnosed. Late diagnosis can be incredibly validating and opens doors to supports that weren't previously accessible. There is no age limit for assessment.

How is this different from an online ADHD or autism quiz?

Significantly. Online checklists are screening tools. They can indicate whether an assessment is warranted, but they don't diagnose. A formal assessment uses validated instruments normed against population data, accounts for multiple sources of information (not just self-report), and results in a diagnostic report that is clinically and legally meaningful.

What if I already have a diagnosis?

We can conduct updated assessments for those who were diagnosed as children and need a current report for adult services, NDIS, or university. We also offer second-opinion assessments where the original diagnosis is uncertain or was conducted without formal psychometric testing.

Will I definitely get a diagnosis at the end?

Not necessarily, and that's okay. Our commitment is to accuracy, not to a particular outcome. Sometimes the assessment reveals a different explanation for your difficulties (which is still incredibly useful). Sometimes it confirms a diagnosis. Either way, you'll leave with a much clearer picture of your cognitive profile and practical recommendations.

Do you assess for both ADHD and autism in the same assessment?

Yes. ADHD and autism frequently co-occur, and many features overlap, so a comprehensive assessment considers both possibilities. We'll discuss the scope of the assessment with you during your initial enquiry and tailor it to your specific concerns.
