COMPREHENSIVE ADHD & AUTISM ASSESSMENTS FOR ADOLESCENTS AND ADULTS (12+)
At Pre-Emptive Healthcare, we provide thorough and compassionate ADHD and Autism assessments for individuals aged 12 and above.
Neurodiversity acknowledges the natural variations in how people think, learn, and process information.
Masking involves hiding or suppressing neurodivergent traits to meet social expectations.
Individuals commonly experience traits of both conditions, termed AuDHD. ADHD involves attention regulation, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. Autism involves differences in social communication, sensory experiences, and behavioral patterns.
We use validated, normed psychometric instruments (cognitive batteries, behavioural rating scales, clinical interviews, and structured observation), not questionnaires alone.
You'll receive a comprehensive report suitable for schools, workplaces, NDIS, Medicare, and your treating team, clearly written and easy to act on.
Results aren't just handed to you in a document. Your psychologist will walk through the findings with you, explaining what they mean, answering your questions, and discussing next steps.
Assessments are appropriate for children, teenagers, and adults across a wide range of presentations.
Difficulty sustaining attention, impulsivity, forgetfulness, disorganisation, restlessness, or emotional dysregulation (across childhood or first presenting in adulthood).
Difficulties with social communication, sensory sensitivities, preference for routine, special interests, or a longstanding sense of being "different" (assessed across all genders).
Unexplained struggles with reading, writing, mathematics, or processing (ruling out or identifying specific learning disorders such as dyslexia or dyscalculia).
Difficulties with planning, prioritising, initiating tasks, time management, working memory, or emotional regulation (affecting school, work, and daily life).
Formal assessment reports are typically required to access exam provisions, support classes, teacher aide funding, and other educational adjustments through schools and VCAA.
Adults seeking formal documentation to support requests for reasonable adjustments at work, including flexible hours, task modification, or additional support.
A psychometric assessment report is often required to support an NDIS application or plan review, documenting functional impairment and support needs.
Adults or families seeking a second opinion on a previous diagnosis, or exploring whether an existing diagnosis fully explains the difficulties experienced.
Many people (especially women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals) are identified with ADHD or autism only in adulthood. It is never too late to seek assessment.
A thorough assessment takes time. Here's what to expect from enquiry to report.
Contact us to discuss your situation. A GP referral is not required to arrange an assessment, but is recommended for access to Medicare rebates on assessment sessions. For children, a paediatrician or GP referral may also be useful context. We'll discuss what type of assessment is most appropriate for your needs.
Before any formal testing begins, your psychologist conducts a thorough clinical interview, exploring your developmental history, current functioning, previous assessments, and the specific concerns that have brought you to assessment. For children, a parent interview is conducted separately.
Testing is typically conducted across one or two sessions (2–4 hours total). This includes standardised cognitive and neuropsychological tests, behavioural rating scales (completed by you, a parent, or a teacher), and structured observational assessments where relevant. Testing is administered in a calm, comfortable setting.
Before the written report is finalised, your psychologist will conduct a feedback session to discuss findings, answer questions, and ensure you understand what the results mean. This is an important part of the process, not an afterthought.
You'll receive a detailed written report covering cognitive profile, diagnostic impressions, and personalised recommendations, suitable for schools, workplaces, NDIS, and your treating team. We'll also discuss any recommended follow-up, including therapy or referral to our psychiatrist for medication if appropriate.
In Australia, individuals under 25 years of age may be eligible for Medicare rebates to help cover the cost of an Autism or ADHD assessment when referred by a paediatrician or psychiatrist.
Psychologists cannot prescribe medication or authorize GPs to prescribe it. For ADHD, some may seek medication from a psychiatrist without a report. For both ASD and ADHD, assessment provides valuable insights and guides management in collaboration with medical practitioners.
ASD, ADHD and combined ASD/ADHD assessments provided directly to clients for clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning are generally GST-free under Australian tax law. Where commissioned by third party (insurer, legal representative, school, organization), GST may be applicable.
Contact us to discuss whether an assessment is right for you or your child. We'll talk through the process, costs, and next steps.
