Consultant psychiatrist Dr Katherine Steele is an adult general psychiatrist with 20 years’ experience treating mood disorders with medication and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). This includes depressive disorders, generalised and social anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and complex trauma. She has a special interest in psychopharmacology and women’s mental health, including treating Pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and menopausal depression.

As a general psychiatrist, Dr Steele also treats binge eating disorders and bulimia and will manage patients with ADHD.  She does not treat psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, severe anorexia or addictions. She accepts GP referrals of patients between the ages of 18 and 65. An initial psychiatric assessment will include a comprehensive biopsychosocial-spiritual assessment and a letter back to your referring doctor. Medication options are discussed in detail in the second session after any required collateral history and pathology results has been obtained. Treatment is reviewed by Dr Steele and ongoing treatment provided when appropriate.

Dr Steele is experienced in pharmacotherapy, CBT and Schema Therapy and uses trauma informed, empathic, collaborative care, tailored to your specific needs. Her qualifications include a Medical Degree and Master’s degree in Psychiatry from the University of Melbourne, Basic and Advanced certificates in CBT, a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and she is an accredited Schema Therapist with the International Society of Schema Therapists (ISST).

She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and an accredited member of their faculties of Adult General Psychiatry and Psychotherapy.
