Clinical Psychologist Fees – Pre-Emptive Healthcare Melbourne
Looking for a clinical psychologist in Melbourne with transparent fees and Medicare rebates?
At Pre-Emptive Healthcare, individual session fees for General and Clinical Psychologists range from $200 to $300 per standard 50-minute appointment. Clients with a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from their GP can access a Medicare rebate of $145.25 for Clinical Psychologists and $98.95 for General Psychologists.
Couples & Family sessions range between $300 to $330 and are not currently eligible for Medicare rebates.
You may claim up to 10 partially-rebated psychology sessions per calendar year under the Medicare Better Access Initiative.
We also offer support for individuals with a valid Eating Disorder Plan (EDP). You may claim up to 40 partially-rebated psychology sessions and 20 partially-rebated dietitian sessions per 12 month period under an EDP.
For those seeking a more affordable option, we also offer low-cost counselling with a provisional psychologist at just $60 per 50-minute session, with no MHCP required.
Unlike many practices, Pre-Emptive Healthcare does not charge additional fees for after-hours or evening appointments, making it easier to access quality mental health care at a time that suits you.

Medicare Safety Net
The Medicare Safety Net is an Australian Government initiative. Once you reach the Medicare Safety Net, increased rebates may apply, further reducing your out-of-pocket healthcare costs. Once you have spent over a certain amount on Medicare eligible sessions in a calendar year, or 'met the Safety Net' threshold, your Medicare rebates increase for the remainder of the year. This means you may receive a larger rebate for services such as GP visits, specialist appointments, and mental health sessions.
There are different thresholds depending on your circumstances, including whether you hold a concession card or are part of a registered family. You can find out what your Medicare Safety Net threshold is by contacting Medicare directly or via the MyGov app.
The Medicare Safety Net can help make ongoing healthcare more affordable, particularly if you require regular appointments throughout the year.
